December Diary: How to perfect a New Year’s Eve Party

December 11, 2012

Hi ladies. We’re back again this week with another ‘December Diary how to’. Did you find the safeguarding yourself at the office do post useful?

This week we’re talking big celebrations – that’s right, it’s how to perfect your NYE do! It’s arguably one of the most celebrated evenings of the year, so if you’re still wondering what to do and haven’t made your mind up yet about where to spend the first few hours of 2013, then why not host your own spectacular event? Don’t worry if you’re a bit worried about hosting the perfect do, we’ve got the perfect tips to ensure your party is unrivalled:

Set a Theme

Setting a theme is a guaranteed way to get the night going with a bang. Black tie, red carpet or casino themed nights tend to lend themselves to the dressier associations with NYE, so expect your guests to turn up in full length dresses and outrageously smart dinner jackets. However it’s completely up to you – if cartoon characters or doctors and nurses is more your thing, then go wild.

Pack a Punch

Not literally, but make sure you put on a good spread in the way of cocktails and punches. A signature cocktail with your personal touch plus a popular cocktail drink as well as a good selection of wine is sure to suffice. As well as alcoholic drinks make sure you cater for those that won’t be drinking. There are plenty of recipes for non-alcoholic drinks that still taste just as yummy. Don’t forget the champagne for midnight!

Make a Bang

Go to town on the decorations – including party hats and noisemakers. Balloons are a really cheap way to make your house look the part; try and tie the colour in with your theme – black and gold are classy colours if you’re stuck for inspiration.

Entertain

Naturally, you’ll have the television on as the countdown to midnight begins but how else do you plan to keep your guests entertained? Good old party games are brilliant way to break the ice, especially if you’re inviting different groups of friends. Here’s an idea – everyone writes down their new year’s resolution and puts the answers in a hat. One by one they get read out and everyone has to guess whose resolution is whose.

…and lastly, don’t forget to learn the words to Auld Lang Syne! We hope you guys find this useful. Stay tuned for next weeks’ December Diary, which will reveal the best hangover cures for the party season!
