October 6, 2016

In the past few weeks, Wednesday night has become one of our favourites (after Fridays and Saturdays) thanks to the return of The Great British Bake Off. You just can’t beat spending your evening with oh so stylish Mary Berry and our weird man-crush Paul Hollywood whilst your mouth waters over tasty treats you won’t get to try! So for today’s blog, we thought we’d pick out some of our favourite bakes from the series so far:

Selasi’s Ombre Beauty

Botanical week saw Selasi nail one of our favourite trends from SS16 – in a cake. His gorgeous ombre rose cake showed off his serious skills when it comes to piping. And let’s face it, it’s not just Selasi’s bakes that are good looking – he’s pretty easy on the eye himself!

Selasi fun fact: Selasi broke several thousand hearts in batter week when he revealed he has a girlfriend.

Benjamina’s Batter

Benjamina proved she was queen of the batter with her all round excellent performance in batter week. However it was her gorgeous lace pancakes in the technical challenge that secured her the Star Baker title.

Benjamina fun fact: Smarty pants Benjamina recently graduated with a 1st in economics.

Jane’s Mirror Glaze Cake

Paul and Mary were blown away by Jane’s beautifully simple mirror glaze cake in week one, making her an early contender and the first star baker of the 2016 series. Jane’s dropped under the radar in recent weeks, but we suspect we’ll see a lot more beautiful bakes from her as the series continues.

Jane fun fact: Jane says she’s up at 5am baking most mornings. Can she come and work at Curvissa HQ?!

Candice’s Biscuit Pub

We loved Candice’s pub in biscuit week, complete with pool table and family members made out of biscuits. Plus, pubs and biscuits – what’s not to love? There’s no denying that Candice’s lipstick game is seriously strong too.

Tom’s ‘Manly’ bread

Project manager Tom certainly raised a few eyebrows in the tent in bread week with his, ahem, Thor’s Hammer. He also claimed it was a ‘T’ for Thor and for Tom, but Mel summed up what the nation was thinking when she remarked ‘It’s very male, isn’t it?’ Tom is definitely one to watch this year; he has been named star baker twice so far.

Fun Tom Fact: Tom earned Paul’s first handshake of the series in week one.
