SS21 Biggest Fashion Trends

February 28, 2021

2021 is going to be an unusual time for fashion. During the chaotic year that was 2020, the global pandemic paved the way for new styles to emerge which respond to the current state of the world. From bold colours to slouchy denim, this year is all about refreshing our clothing collections with classic pieces that offer a fresh new twist.

In this blog, we’ll take you through five major trends that are set to surface during the coming months. Read on and take notes!

1. Colourful dresses

While 2020 saw our fancy dresses and partywear pushed firmly to the back of our wardrobes, the spring/summer 2021 collection promises a bit more optimism. This year, it’s all about having fun with our outfits.

First on our list? Colourful dresses that are sure to turn heads. Vibrant pops of colour are expected to permeate the summer outfits scene (think bubblegum pinks and raspberry shades), with popular dress styles ranging from midi numbers to ruffled designs complete with oversized sleeves.

2. Comfortable loungewear

Thanks to Covid, we’ve all been hanging around the house in our loungewear for what feels like a lifetime. Our home has become our office, and the sofa has become our new best friend. And low and behold, comfort dressing is still predicted to be a big trend throughout 2021.

This was certainly reflected on the Fashion Week catwalks, with lots of designers choosing to feature cosy fabrics in their SS21 collections. From slouchy lounge sets to house slippers and knitwear, make some space in your wardrobe for even more elevated comfortable clothing.

3. Metallic effect

That’s right, metallic is back. Fashion Week displays were full of glitzy metallics, sequins and lurex that were in keeping with the notion of celebrating our outfits this year. From glimmering jersey dresses to dazzling drop earrings, brace yourself for a fabulous array of glitzy pieces as we move towards the warmer months. And let’s face it, we’re all entitled to inject a little pizzazz into our outfit stash at the moment.

4. Slouchy denim

Thought denim had taken a back seat for good? Think again.

One of the biggest fashion trends of this year will be the rise of slouchy, oversized jeans. With a strong nod to the ‘70s, baggy jeans that sit high on the waist and flare out towards the ankle are set to storm onto the scene. For a classic everyday look, team yours with a loose‐fitting t‐shirt and your favourite trainers.

5. Monochrome

Monochrome will well and truly be back in demand come summer, and we couldn’t be happier about it. Effortlessly stylish and glam, a touch of monochrome is just what we need to pull us out of our slump. From swing dresses to jackets and jersey tops, it’s all about keeping it simple with black and white tones this year.
