What Body Confidence Means To You

April 14, 2014
Curve Project

The Curve Project 2014 was an amazing event dedicated to body confidence. In the past our plus-size beauties might have shied away from the spotlight, but not at this event.

Through a series of workshops and catwalk experiences, they gained a new perspective on what beauty and style really was. Becky from Does My Blog Make Me Look Fat sums the Curve Project up quite nicely:

It quickly became clear, this wasn’t just about trying on some clothes. It was all about confidence and feeling fabulous in the skin you are in.”

To gain a greater insight into what our lovely ladies took from the event, we asked each attendee five simple questions. Their answers were truly inspiring – here’s just a snapshot.

The best body confidence tip I learnt from today was…

Body Confidence

After spending the day with celeb stylists, makeup artists and catwalk coach Les Child, the girls were asked to choose what body confidence tip they valued the most. We love the responses they gave us.

Anne-Lise from Mookie’s Life told us “look confident and you will appear confident to other people.” She recognises that body confidence isn’t about what you wear– it starts from within. Believe in yourself, and your beauty shines through.

Many agreed with Anne-Lise. Gemma Cruickshank says “embrace everything and strut!” It’s about eliminating negativity and letting everyone know you love your body. Ignore media messages and preconceived ideas of what beauty ‘is’ – it’s what you make it.

My body confidence role model is…

The responses to this question included celebrity influences such as Queen Latifah and Beth Ditto (and even Miss Piggy!) But it was friends and family that proved most popular. Becca from The Girl With The Plait told us that her mum was her role model. There to help her through the good and the bad, she’s her inspiration.

Similarly, fellow fashion bloggers also play an important role. 1/3rd of our ladies said that plus size bloggers motivate them to be body confident. The blogging community offers a fantastic support network; a creative medium for style-savvy writers to share their stories and make friends.

Natalie from A Wheelbarrow Full Of Style says:

“Fashion bloggers, especially plus size bloggers, are all role models for me. These ladies inspire me to try clothes that I wouldn’t have ever dreamed about trying, they talk about being positive and living life.”

The event really brought out the best in our girls and we can’t wait for the next workshop. Catch our next blog post for more post-Curve Project gossip.
