The LFW Review – ‘the future of fashion’

February 26, 2013

LPSFW

We’ve been at a loss without our daily dose of runway gossip and despite the slightly less than affordable fashion showcased; we’ve been in awe of the creativity and artistic merits of all the designers who took part in London Fashion Week – and what a week it was.

This year goes to show how far fashion has come these last few years. We’re moving out of a narrow-minded view point so that ‘normal’ ladies are represented in the catwalk shows, and, when you consider that the average British women’s dress size is 16, it’s about time really.
This time around, LFW was different. More inclusive and inviting some would say. Not only was there the strongest high-street fashion presence, with Topshop, River Island and Whistles all showcasing their latest looks, and there was the first ever official British plus size fashion event. London Plus Size Fashion Weekend (LPSFW) was hosted over two days in Shoreditch Town Hall. The press are calling LPSFW “the shape of fashion’s future” which can only be a good thing for all the curvaceous ladies out there.

LPSFW came about after fashionistas Rianne Ward and Remi Ray realised that a huge demographic of women weren’t being represented in fashion, and wanted to get rid of the weird assumption that there is a ‘type’ of clothing that bigger ladies want to wear – and here at Curvissa we second that notion. Being fashion lovers ourselves, we don’t think that size should dictate your style.

Go fashion week! At last, we’re starting to celebrate the diversity of beauty in fashion, rather than trying to imply that one particular size is best.
What do you make of this ladies? Do you think it’s a turning point for the couture catwalks? Can we expect to see a plus size fashion catwalk as the norm from now on? We sure hope so.
