Red Lip Rules

March 6, 2013

Hey ladies,

Today we’re talking lipstick. It’s definitely one of the best items to keep in your make up bag at all times and we think it’s the accessory of the season. So, shop your shape on our site and get ready to complete your look with your perfect shade of lipstick. We want to share with you our top tips and swear-by rules on how to achieve perfect foxy lips – so if you’ve ever felt self-conscious about putting on the stick, allow us to be of assistance:

Shady business

There’s nothing dodgy about this business – picking your shade is probably one of the most important factors when it comes to choosing lipstick. Siren reds, warm sunset oranges and deep berry shades will suit darker, warm tones more whereas pearly red rose and ‘blue’ reds will suit paler skin tones, and can make your teeth look whiter too.

Try before you buy

Obviously, you can’t walk into a shop and start applying lipstick to your mouth (and we can’t see why you’d want to, either! Think of the germs..!). Many people think that the best way to test out the colour of a shade is by applying to the back of your hand when in fact, the skin most similar to the colour of your lips is your fingertips. Once you’ve applied a few shades it’s time to hold your fingers against your face to see what colour suits best.

What other make up should I wear?

Once you’ve picked the perfect shade it’s time to match it to the rest of your make up. For a night out, dusty and smoky dark eye shadow and generous amounts of black eyeliner will give off a gorgeous sultry appeal. For an understated daytime look sporadic lashings of mascara and a touch of blusher will keep it oh-so subtle.

Keep it on!

To get the most out of your lipstick moisturise your lips before hand with a balm and use a lip liner to define the lip and colour it. Apply two coats of lipstick for a dense covering.
