Looking After Your Lingerie

Every woman knows that the foundation to a perfect outfit is the right lingerie. We know that when you’ve invested in that ultra-flattering piece of shapewear, the perfect fit bra or a gorgeous pair of knickers, you want to keep them in pristine condition. So for today’s blog, we’re bringing you our best tips for how to look after your lingerie.

 Bras

We know it’s not the easy option, but the best way to keep your bras supportive, crisp and as-new is to hand wash them. Okay, it takes a bit longer than shoving them in the washing machine, but trust us, it’s worth it in the long run.

Begin by dabbing away any stains with a mild soap and a sponge, then soak your bra in a detergent specifically designed for delicates (or for an economical alternative, try baby shampoo!). Gently work the soapy water through your bra, and rinse away the suds.

To dry, gently fold the bra inside a towel and press lightly to remove excess water. We don’t recommend putting your bra in the tumble dryer. Just don’t do it – it will never be the same again!

If your bra absolutely should go in the washing machine, make sure to fasten it beforehand and wash inside a pillowcase on a gentle setting to avoid damage.

Shapewear

Minimiser Body – £29.99

We all love the super smooth silhouette shapewear gives us, so protecting it with the correct washing method is key. Again, hand washing is the way forward. Avoid any detergents with chlorine in the ingredients, as this can damage the elastic fibres and make your shapewear lose its suction power.

If you must use the washing machine, try a mesh laundry bag, specifically designed to protect lingerie while in the washing machine. This will prevent snags or ladders. No one wants holey shapewear.

 Knickers

Depending on the fabric, some knickers are fine to wash in the machine. But if you’ve treated yourself to silk, nylon or delicate lace knickers, the mesh laundry bag will be your best friend as it will prevent your pants losing their shape and elasticity. Use warm water, a cold rinse and a delicate detergent. Always air dry as the tumble dryer can cause the elastic waistbands and leg bands to stretch.
